What is the most common reason when you unsubscribe?

I want to know the reason for these 2:
A) Reason for unsubscribing from the newsletter.
B) Reason for unsubscribing social media.
Please, share your standpoints for A and B.

A) When they no longer provide value or relevance to my interests. If the content becomes repetitive or overly promotional.
B) Reduce distractions and improve mental well-being.

@herwig_kusatz do you have any limits for following on social media?
A) I usually unsubscribe when a newsletter becomes spammy (too many links).
B) When social media becomes toxic or too much of a time waste, I pause it or reboot it. What I mean by rebooting is that I usually unfollow everyone and start over, so my feed becomes sane.
I'm not saying any of these reasons are justifiable, fair, or PC. It just works for me, or at least I hope they do.
@shownotes I totally get you. I try to "follow" as few people as possible (because I get many notifications and I would go crazy receiving more) ... not speaking that I dedicate my time to other social media for local audiences.
A) Purpose behind signing up to newsletter no longer exists, might have had a specific problem like raising investment or coming up with startup ideas is now not something I'm working on.
B) No longer finding the content interesting, could be too much promotional material or political content for example.
@busmark_w_nika for social media, absolutely - with a newsletter I could just lose interest
bored of the same content
@pabloroigburgui what kind of content do you need to consume to be still interested? What should creator offer you?
A) Not interesting staff and or too many emails in a short time.
B) Not important updates.
This is why I usually immediately unsubscribe from emails! π
@hosseinyazdi what is the ideal frequency for emails (for you personally)? :)
@busmark_w_nika I'm ok with 3-day intervals as long as they're interesting! :)
@hosseinyazdi Good to know :D people get only 1 weekly from me :D
A: Emails are too frequent (I like once a week) and/or the content no longer has value to me.
B: I usually don't unfollow on social media. The less I interact with the content the less I see it anyways.
@dan_o_malley The B β it is a fact! :D The A β how long should the email be so you can read it?
@busmark_w_nika Good question. It depends on how interesting the content is to me. But usually I like brief, actionable points.
@dan_o_malley well, I will try to stick short form :D
I mostly unsubscribe because it gets too spammy.
When it comes to social media I unfollow when the content isn't anymore what it used to be ooor I don't recognize the account.
@miko_markovic11 That makes sense. I am too picky when deciding to follow/unfollow but my unfollow rate is very low then. :)
I agree with @shownotes too much spam makes me run!

1) Too spammy or a change in my interest area. Another reason could be because the newsletter doesn't cover the topic in the expected level of depth. If it is too generic I can just search it up or ask chatGPT.
2) If the content is too vague, too promotional, too self-promoting
@my3_murthy What makes the content unique in A)? Because when you train the GPT model, it can have a certain "level" of narrating a story.
@busmark_w_nika Its not about the narration capabilities,Its more to do with the unique insights. When i am signing up to your newsletter- I want to hear about your thoughts, your experiments & experiences.If you ran a paid ads campaign- what was your hypothesis? how did you go about execute it? what were the results?
@my3_murthy I got it. That's exactly what makes the newsletter unique. + my cringe life makes it better. :D
@busmark_w_nika ππ We should connect because my life is no less cringe!
Frequency & Relevance to me. Get's either too many mails or doesn't add any value for me for a few consecutive mails and it's gone.
@owlmaniac what frequency is ideal for you?
@busmark_w_nika I don't mind weekly if it's giving value.
suppose you offer a wide range of services and I only use one of them. I don't want emails for everything. Value matters the most.
A) I usually unsubscribe when the content is not relevant to me
B) If content becomes repetitive or overly promotional
@andreas_sohns Both are understandable and tbh I have hard times with B, I barely promote something to prevent the B scenario but somehow product needs to be sold. π
I unsubscribe from newsletters when the content becomes repetitive or irrelevant to my current needs. For social media, I disengage if the platform feels toxic or unproductive.
@can_beforesunset On the other hand, who do you recommend me to follow? π
@can_beforesunset Haven't heard about this website but visited it and I like it. Forwarded to the team :) Thanks.
@busmark_w_nika Tech.eu is pretty cool. Interesting news every time.
creating too much noise without any help in personal use (clients perspective)
@kilopolki So what should the newsletter and social media account have to make you satisfied?
@busmark_w_nika no. sometimes people need some information/resources that will drive their problems more efficiently. therefore, giving useful info will lock them in subscription. this is what my perspective is as a client.
Information overwhelm is the number #1 reason! For anyone sending comms, (email or social) consider who you're speaking to, make it relevant, make it helpful etc
@emily_willis1 Good to know. I usually stick to the weekly newsletter because I wouldn't have so much time to create more and stay authentic. :D
When the newsletter becomes spammy.
@elizabeth_calderon π Think also.
The same reason as most people, I unsubscribe to anything when I lost interest or it's too spammy
@borey_washington what does it mean for you to be "spammy"? What is ideal periodicity for reaching out to people when it comes to email?
@busmark_w_nika I unfollow people on Twitter whey they repost the same thing over and over. I unsubscribe from a mailing list when I don't see any value to receive it.
