I like to "see" the product first before making any decision. It could be through a trial account or a preview version, anything works.

Customer reviews, but usually on other platforms, not on the company's website (or if they use some kind of plugin to showcase the reviews from other platforms).
Customer Reviews & Testimonials is the most important thing.
