  • What do you think about the role of aesthetics in product design?

    It shouldn't be a "this or that" kind of discussion. First, establish the UX strategy, and then build the UI (which is aesthetically suitable) upon that UX. It shouldn't be an option, but I've seen some products and websites these days only going after aesthetics (all shiny, neon, too black, haphazard trying to look cool). In my opinion, it's not even good aesthetically when the overall experience is confusing and doesn't drive any engagement because of that.

    @vertikanigam Yeah, the reality is that often people talk about it in this (UX) or that (UI) way. I think UI should be a part of UX. Designers neither should be Figma operators, nor rigid researchers. Our role should be about learning about the problem, making concepts and iterating towards something that feels good to use both from usability, and aesthetic perspectives.

    @martinmaricak I agree. Now in large design teams, roles are more specific. For UX strategy and for UI design. But in my observation, good designers know both the UI and the UX. Even if you're actively working on UI, you must understand how your UX team is operating and what specific UX issues you've to solve with your design.
