I think this is sharing a piece of yourself to another person, and of course he will understand what the story is.

Sometimes the story is more important than the features
I'd say the statement is half right. explaining the reasoning behind product draws a lot of people in but keeping the costumers long-term comes with the quality of the product itself. telling a story gets the product attention but the features keeps it.
