  • Product Hunt launch - Is It Worth It at All?

I recently conducted an experiment with the launch of my app, LegacyApp, to see just how much value product launch platforms really add. I wanted to understand the balance between my own promotional efforts and the platform’s impact. To test this, I launched LegacyApp on both 10words.io and Product Hunt—with zero marketing support from my side. That means no emails, no social media blasts, and no trying to get friends or followers to upvote. Just a raw, unassisted launch to gauge the platform's value. The results were... surprising. On Product Hunt, where I launched on October 9th, I got 4 upvotes and 5 (literally: five) clicks: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/legacyapp-safe-notes-vault Obviously, the product might not have received many upvotes because it may not be interesting to people. BUT on 10words.io, I received 3001 impressions and 47 clicks. This got me wondering: Does Product Hunt actually provide any value for launches, especially for consumer-facing products like mine? I’m not here to bash Product Hunt—it might work great for certain categories, especially B2B or those with significant pre-launch communities. But for consumer goods, it seems like the effort required to promote your launch (or pay someone to do it) overshadows the platform's organic value. Speaking of which, shortly after my launch, I received at least 6 offers on LinkedIn from people trying to sell upvotes and "promotion packages." Here's one such offer: "Loved your tool on PH! I would love to introduce you to my 45k+ audience on LinkedIn, Telegram, and Twitter. I've promoted more than 300+ brands, many of which ended up as Top 5 Products of the Day. Do let me know if you’re up for the collab!" Or this: “Here are my price details: – 50 upvotes for $30 – 60 upvotes + LinkedIn post for $50 – LinkedIn + Twitter post + 70 upvotes + Telegram promo for $60” Honestly, I’m glad I didn't bank on Product Hunt as my main launch strategy—because this would’ve been pretty frustrating. Has anyone else had a similar experience, or do you think I’m missing something here?
