How do small businesses prefer to add line items to invoice in invoicing softwares?

Hi PH community! I would like to learn your valuable opinions on adding line items to invoice in invoicing applications. From user experience point of view is it efficient to choose items from dropdown (catalog) or input them one by one? Considering the invoices given by small businesses will contain 1-5 items on average, please share your ideas about pros and cons of each method
