Do you start building your product before/during validation or only after?

I've built before validation and it was a failure. I'm now trying to do it after validation and am currently in the process of knowing if this was the right choice.

@jacopo_tallini no, because in this segment I really feel the need to validate the problem first. However if you already have plenty of competitors and you think that thereโs something that you definitely will do better, the problem is already validated and you can proceed to start building. Thatโs the only scenario I can think of where I could be afraid of timing.
I really can't understand what's the better way, because if you start building before you put too much effort in something that can fail, if you start after you are going to be late with the market/audience
Please explain in the comment what and why you choose that answer

We started building a project based on the customer pain points that we defined during interviews. We just wanted to be sure that there are customers ready to pay for our product.
