I totally agree with you. My first principles is to try to have short 15 minutes calls with 10% of my new requests on a monthly basis. Second, who I believe has a cool story, I try to write a quick message to stay in touch sending 2/3 keywords of myself, third, I avoid adding people that may have less that 5 common connections + not so relevant to my field.

Overall, for me it's more about organizing the incoming connections, more than deciding whether i accept or not
