China EV's - impose tariffs/bans or not?

Increasingly I've been reading Western media promote the idea of imposing tariffs or even bans of Chinese EV's in EU/US. What are your thoughts, is there a fair argumentation to be made or should China in return impose tariffs on EU/US EV's as well? To me it seems a it hypocritical after years of sourcing nearly every component from China, to then be upset about Chinese entrepreneurs starting to develop China made EV's at a cheaper price of similar quality.
