Hey guys, I have been following this wonderful community for a long time but never tried sharing my projects here. This time, I would love to use my knowledge to build a project of my own. By way of introduction, I am an embedded systems engineer by profession and completed my PhD in signal processing for robots. After finishing my PhD, I have been engaged in several open-source side projects. I truly believe in sharing knowledge, but I also want to use my skills to make money (like all of us here šŸ˜…). My question to the community is: has anyone here made money from open-source projects? Are there any examples or business models I can study to help build my future projects? Iā€™d love to hear about your experiences. cheers!

Absolutely! Take a look at Plausible Analytics - it's an open-source, privacy-first web analytics tool. The founder is very transparent about revenue and has shared how he's grown it into a profitable business. Ghost is another great example of an open-source project turned successful company. The key seems to be offering hosted versions and additional services around the open-source core. It's a lot of work but definitely possible to monetize open-source!
