Individuals, not necessarily engineers but those with technical or general backgrounds, could benefit from this. You'll need simply to provide the AI with context and the necessary abstractions to solve problems.

The fact that it can search on internet, debug and fix issues, shows that the tool can be a productivity winner for small missions or problems. Ofc someone will be using it to deliver more quickly !

I think the future is like what Jensen Huang (NVIDIA CEO) said:

"It is our job to create computing technology such that nobody has to program and that the programming language is human. Everybody in the world is now a programmer. This is the miracle of AI."

However, the reality is not there yet. Between Claude 3 and GPT -4, I spent about 2 hours perfecting a REGEX for parsing URLs out of HTML text that has embedded Javascript. The edge cases were very difficult for the LLMs; without my 70K hours of programming experience, it would have gone back and forth for hours on end.

I have many examples where GPT-4 generated code is not optimal for production environments where precision, accuracy, and reliability are necessary -- aka fintech, healthcare, DoD.

But I must admit that LLMs are helping a great deal of my team with boring CRUD, UI, and definitely test case and documentation generation tasks. We love them, and we pay for all of them.

In the next 2-5 years, basic programming -- business app development and primary game dev will be possible. You will see a fully AI-generated fintech solution with human supervision. But things surely will accelerate exponentially, no doubt.
