Your best advice for improving product activation?

I'll keep this brief:
- Launched 45 days ago.
- 300 sign ups so far.
- $100 MRR so far (good validation: 'people are ready to pay for it')
- REALLY BAD conversion to paid. <5%.
Issue I identified:
- About 60% of the initial 200 signups couldn't figure out the app and weren't able to really 'try it' (lack of/bad onboarding)
Fix:
- Introduced a cheap onboarding workflow which reduced this to about 35% for the next 100 sign ups.
I still consider it quite bad since some users do reach out and tell me that 'they could have used a bit more hand holding'.

Bottomline is, I'm going to initiate a deep coding sprint to hit product activation from multiple angles. And would love it if you could make any recommendations of:
1. tools (framework, libraries, etc.)
2. resources (articles, newsletters you liked, YT Playlist?)
That helped YOU for your apps to sort of .. get 'educated' on the topic.
I have tons of ideas to improve it, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel, and would rather do it once but do it really well.
Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated <3
Cheers,

Launching soon!
Good question. Do you have a sense of what the activation points are? That is, the moments people might experience in the app that will make the light bulb go off? I wonder if the onboarding can basically guide people directly to those points (easier said than done).

@bensyverson That's actually a very good question... unfortunately, there's a total of 4 steps before they get to the "aha" moment.
I like your suggestion - I think I can cut 2 of them by automating them at least for the first time they go through those steps (those actions are linked to billing, but for someone on "trial" that shouldn't matter for the first iteration).
And up till that point, I'm going to go ahead and keep the onboarding 'running'. Currently, after step 1, I just mark onboarding as completed.
Thanks for that mate, that question has given me a good direction to go into.
Btw, I'm new to Product Hunt (like.. I literally just created an account).
Not aware of the community guidelines - which is why I have avoided mentioning the app name here. That's not the purpose of this post .. I just want your suggestions and maybe someone resource goldmine that helped you for your own business/product.
