Why I decided to take a break from X

I have 1K followers on X. Only a dozen or fewer interact with me. The rest are zombie followers who followed me over time but never interacted. It was becoming super dull. I decided to take a break for the summer. I may or may not return to X. It all depends on how the summer goes :)

Partly, the algorithm is also to blame. They keep on changing it soo much. With Twitter, my engagement was good, even with 200 followers. Now, the engagement has been horrible even with premium.

I gave up on that too. Tbh since Elon has taken over it, the social network is not the same anymore. Empty threads with random messages and too much advertisement, fake accounts more than never, and limited features to interact with people. Not even for memes anymore.

I have a similar feeling, which I think is related to personal experiences. A few years ago, I really enjoyed following interesting people and events on X, but suddenly one day, I realized these things had no direct connection to me. It seemed I had spent too much time on it, and I wasn't sure why.

@shonwu Exactly! that very feeling came to me as well and I was wondering why I am hanging out there.

Many people experienced log engagement now. And many discuss entering Threads.

@busmark_w_nika I have tried Threads when it came out but honestly didn't feel the vibe. Same is true for the blue sky thingy. I wish there were a maker-only social platform. PH is good, but makers in various stages of product development can benefit from a more general-purpose social platform. X currently seems to be catering to the extreme ends of political spectrum or any other tug-of-war game type discussions

@shownotes The reach on X decreased but if you find there right people (in my case indiehackers and buildinpublic makers) – I feel happy there.

Ah, the summer break from X sounds like the perfect escape from the zombie follower invasion! Who needs ghost followers when you can enjoy some real interaction in the sunshine? Here's to a lively summer ahead!
