WHY did you launch Lifetime deals (LTD) & Did you achieve your goals?

I regularly work with SaaS founders and I've noticed an interesting trend: many of them has launched lifetime deals on platforms like Appsumo, Saasmantra, or Saaszilla. At first, it seemed counterintuitive to me. I mean, why would you want to take in revenue just once but commit to supporting the customer indefinitely? Plus, some of these platforms, like Appsumo, charge a whopping 80% revenue share. That means we're pocketing a pretty slim slice of the pie. So, what's the attraction for founders? What really got me curious was noticing mature, well-established companies popping up on Appsumo's deal list. Companies like Processio (which is live now), Marketmuse, Sendinblue. Wouldn't they risk their monthly customers jumping ship for a lifetime deal? This whole "LTD" (lifetime deal) phenomenon has me scratching my head, honestly. I'm genuinely eager to understand. For those of you who've launched lifetime deals before, I'd love to hear your goals of launching LTDS and whether you managed to hit them. Thanks a heap for sharing your insights!
