When do you send newsletters? Time, day, (frequency)?

Just out of my curiosity. Which times are the best (for you) when sending your newsletter? Can you also share the reason why you decided on such a timing? I want to understand the "psychology" behind that.

Product idea: Timezoned newsletter dispenser 😬 Send everyone emails in their own local timezone. 9AM Tuesday localised timezone.

@busmark_w_nika I doubt mail chimp has it. It would require some scraping, like getprospect.com but scraping peoples geo-location as well. That's why it's a great product idea for someone to make. Imagine the increased conversion rate. People check their mail in the morning, and quickly triage through it. And if you're higher up in the list, you get a bit more attention etc. "Newsletters delivered to you in the morning where ever you are" 🥐☕️

@busmark_w_nika Yeah but forms break UX. Make it simple for people to signup etc. Geo-loc is easy. Just scrape it of LinkedIn. If getprospect.com can find emails from just a name, then you can also find geo-loc from just an email. There might exist something out there that does this tho.

I quite literally run a newsletter on Psychology since the last 3 years and have experimented a lot with timings. I send it on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Timings are generally around UTC 1:00PM. The psychology is simple. Make your email stand out because I write them very crisp.

While send testing is important, the biggest factor I've seen lead to success is sending on a regular basis. E.g. always send your Product updates on the first Tuesday of the month at noon; send your newsletter as a Friday treat on Fridays at 9AM; etc. Pick a day/time and stick with it so users know when they can expect to hear from you, and you can build anticipation while they wait.

The timing and frequency of sending newsletters depend on the product and target segment. For B2C brands related to home entertainment, I recommend sending newsletters after working hours and on weekends when consumers are more likely to engage. For B2B communications, it's best to send during office hours, typically mid-week, when professionals are actively managing their work-related emails. This strategic approach ensures optimal engagement and relevance for each audience.

@natalie_trotsenko @busmark_w_nika +1 to weekends for consumer! I used to send emails on Sundays at 8PM and they converted well (D2C fashion brand).

I also send out newsletters every Monday but since our audience is international, I've found that at 7-8 PM CET they perform better.

Have been trying different times. Still trying to work it out. Tuesdays seem good. AS for the hour, we're trying 10 a.m (GMT)

@busmark_w_nika My main audience are interior designers and real estate agents in the US. Yea, that customization is annoying but very helpful.

If I receive a Fastmail notification 'on-the-hour', I can guarantee it's going to be from a mailing list, and it gets ignored. I've been wondering if sending newsletters at random times in the hour would increase reader numbers.
