When my old company went remote, I had to force people to stop working. I'd get messages way after hours, 11pm, 1am, when the team was glued to their screens and had no where to go. I was equally guilty as well from time to time. Creating a hard stopping time is the only thing that worked. There needs to be a clear separation of work-life when you're basically in the same place. We didn't totally appreciate that in the office when you were physically in a different place and that demarcation was obvious. If you're in front of the computer working from 9am and then... still on the computer, "after" work, that separation is much less apparent and it's easy to slip into working extra, extra late hours. The biggest specific challenge was changing the mindset of the team to close their messaging apps, close outlook, close down whatever project and go do something else after work hours.

@anthony_latona It sounds like you faced a common challenge when transitioning to remote work. Establishing clear boundaries between work and personal time is crucial to maintain a healthy work-life balance. It's great that you recognized the need for a hard stopping time. Finding a balance that works for your team and ensuring everyone has the opportunity for personal time is key to a successful remote work environment.

Fixing the hours is a big one for me. I sometimes work too much and then there are days where I can barely concentrate cause I'm looking at the clock!

@mansi_trivedi1 Setting regular work hours is important. It prevents overworking and supports a balanced work-life routine. However, finding a rhythm that allows for productivity without feeling restricted by time is essential. Have you found any helpful approaches?

@elifduran I've tried building schedules and planning but I can't seem to completely resolve the issue.. Do you have any suggestions??

For my in a remote setup, life usually takes over work unless there is an allocated area for work exclusively. For me the biggest challenges are: avoiding the distractions of doing household chores instead of focusing on work tasks, preventing myself from snacking all day long, especially when the kitchen is just a few steps away and managing the desire to work in pyjamas all day, every day :-D

@candrefs You've highlighted some common challenges of working remotely! Creating a designated workspace can indeed help maintain a clear boundary between work and personal life. I can totally relate those issues with me 😂

I try to work in the morning, then have a walk or a trip around the city where I am right now, and have a good meal. After that, I am ready for the next round of my remote work in a good mood and with passion.

My biggest challenge in maintaining work-life balance in a remote setup is setting boundaries. It's easy to let work creep into my personal time, especially when I'm working from home. I'm constantly checking my email and Slack notifications, and I find myself thinking about work even when I'm trying to relax.

@eliza_crescini I completely relate to the struggle with setting boundaries in a remote work environment. It's so easy for work to seep into personal time when your office is at home. It's a constant effort to find that balance. Have you discovered any strategies that help you manage this challenge?

I am literally still working even though I was supposed to be off ages ago -- I just hyperfixate on tasks and cannot pull myself away till I'm satisfied with the results. I really need to work on this but ;_;
