Not long ago, Elon Musk said "AI will probably be smarter than any single human next year. By 2029, AI is probably smarter than all humans combined." Isn't that alarming?

I think it does not matter who tweeted it and which dates were given. But as AI moves more and more into our lives, it makes sense to think about such scenarios. However, I also think one has to be more specific. What does "smart" even mean?

Suppose you think human knowledge and ingenuity can be bundled up in any internet dataset, and that's all there is to humanity's creative, irrational, cultural, and socio-economic existence. In that case, AI will kill us all, and we are doomed. However, an Internet dataset based on Western biases does not equate to the entirety of humanity's knowledge. Therefore, the approach of training AI to surpass human intelligence is questionable. Many prominent AI scientists believe that achieving even a CAT-level intelligence is a distant prospect. Microsoft/OpenAI, Google/Deepmind, Apple/Oops!, and Tesla/X.AI's marketing and engineering pushes are simply marketing gimmicks and, in many ways, a way to create regulatory capture for the big boys in the room. Just look at the US government's AI boards -- the very companies/people who stand to gain the most by creating big barriers to AI development from smaller startups. And Elon loves controversy so much that he now creates new ones weekly.

Hmmm this is bold and usual kind of comments from Elon. But there are various types of intelligence. Knowledge is only but one type... of course emotional intelligence is another and is certainly what we have leaned into with our AI. Our goal is to help everybody have the same level of accessibility to these types of human intelligence. If you are interested in this area of AI we would love your feedback on our launch today @Marlee
