What's the best way to engage developer audiences?

Software developers hate being sold to. They despise it to the point that doing paid ads feels like an actual disservice to your company. Our approach has been to try and deliver actual value: mainly by creating super engaging, thoughtful, interesting content around the AI calling API we're building. What are other folks doing?
