After launching a product, there are countless metrics you could focus on - user acquisition, engagement, retention, etc. What do you prioritize first and why? How do you decide which metrics are most important for your product’s growth?

Launching soon!
I hear from leading product analysts that activation and retention should go before user acquisition. Because if users don't stay in your product for long, you can waste huge sums on marketing and the huge CAC with small revenue per user will eventually kill your product.

Post-launch, it is best to prioritize user engagement (e.g., daily active users, session duration)
Agree that retention is crucial. Track daily/weekly active users, stickiness (DAU/MAU), and churn rates. Also monitor user behavior in-app to ID friction points hurting retention. Need to constantly A/B test and optimize onboarding, core features, notifications etc to boost retention. Acquisition can scale later once you nail the user experience and have strong retention.
Retention is definitely key - without strong retention, high user acquisition will just be a revolving door. I prioritize activation rate (what % of new signups reach an 'aha moment') and then 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month retention rates. If those core metrics are solid, then it makes sense to ramp up acquisition. Also helps to look at per-user revenue or LTV to know how much you can afford to spend to acquire a user profitably.
