What is marketing to you as a product maker?

In my short time here, I've seen many Product makers do not know how to market their products or SaaS. Some of them feel like marketing is a waste of time. The reason is that they believe they make money while developing, but when it comes to marketing, it's an opportunity cost. The reason is that it isn't effective. Just wondering what marketing means to you and how to do it?

Hello! It cannot be said that marketing is an empty part of the work, or something like that, it is an important strategic aspect that cannot be dispensed with. For me, this is an important gear at work, without all my gears, my current product would not exist.

@ixord I agree and like your metaphor! Despite a great product, getting customers can be challenging without effective marketing.
Our team started to look at marketing from a different perspective. Our goal will be to bring as much value as we possibly can to our ICP over the channels they are active on, without spending for social marketing campaigns. Our goal is to onboard 100+ IUs to our solution and use the product do drive growth.

Good marketing is about bringing awareness of your product to the people that need your product. You always need that it if you're selling or making something. I'd say that maybe people have the wrong idea because they get lots of ads that are not for them, so they actually see bad marketing.

@nuno_ms_reis I agree with you. That's why it's important to define your target audience and grow it.

Really doing whatever it is to understand your audience better and tell them that you exist so they try you out.

@igorpavlov Yes, can you tell me where your credentials are? What is the best channel for you?

@charlie_lee1 Sure, we are listed on Google Workspace Marketplace when Quilgo was a product solely for Google users, but now we are launching a standalone product and actively working with existing audiences via email and are looking into ads, but finding good CPC is always a challenge.

I know marketing is really valuable but I just don't like it at all! I like to keep developing new stuff, but marketing prevents me from freely doing so as it's too time-consuming!

@hosseinyazdi You are not the only one, I believe. That's how other developers and entrepreneurs think. Therefore, it is important to play efficiently.
