What do you prefer - solo-founders or co-founders?

There is an opinion that many startups fail because of disagreements between founders. At the same time VCs prefer startups with co-founders as it leads to a more balanced development process (this confirmed by Adizez too).
What do you think?

It's VERY difficult to find an appropriate co-founder. So I would prefer to be a solo founder if I could. But unfortunately, I always need an IT guy.

Founding is really hard - especially for the kinds of companies that VCs want to fund!
Imo part of the reason that VCs prefer co-founders is that doing it alone is so much harder both emotionally, and because there isn't another person to discuss everything with/keep your excesses in check.
