What do you Prefer: Corporate or Start-Up Work Life?

Hello! I'm a mid-level software developer. I've experienced the start-up work-life in the past and I am currently on my 6-month mark working for a big corporation as a software developer. Recently, I've been wondering what path I'd like to go on. I want to plan out my career path in the best possible way While start-up work was more flexible, it was also uncertain if I'd get my next FULL paycheque (not to mention the tricky legal hurdles I've had to get over). Being relatively new to corporate development life, I feel slightly underpaid but its super stable and work load is consistent. I mostly want to grow my skills and, especially, salary; it would be amazing to get to a senior-level position. Would climbing up the corporate ladder help to speed that process? Would it be slow but more stable? I'd love to hear from people from different industries to hear experiences with both start-ups and corporations!

From my experience, I started as a freelance software engineer and then started a SaaS development company and building SaaS products for myself as well! I never thought to get a corporate job, for two reasons, the first one being freedom and the second one is because I don't want my mind to get used to the security that comes with having a job, the Start-Up work life is all about getting used to the uncertainty and taking risks! But I do think that circumstances could be different from one another, I would suggest you analyze your life right now, set your priorities and find out the best path based on them!

@zedkira Thats a great focus point! Thinking about it now, freedom is definitely something I do miss. Having full control in terms of design, structure, planning, and so much more made everything much better, even taking into consideration pay and risks. Working at my corporate job versus the projects that I work on with friends, I can clearly see where my passion in development is thriving more in. Thank you for your input!
