Pros of open-source development: - Cost-effective: Free software saves money. - Quality: Reviewed and tested by a large developer community, so it's usually high quality. - Security: More secure than proprietary software, as issues are quickly identified and fixed. - Flexibility: Customizable to meet specific needs. - Community support: Active communities provide assistance. Cons of open-source development: - Lack of commercial support can make getting help difficult. - Some projects may be immature or lack essential features. - Licensing complexity can be challenging to manage. Open-source development's impact on product success: - Reduces costs. - Enhances product quality, security, and flexibility. - Attracts a larger community of users. - No guarantee of success; a well-designed product meeting market needs is crucial. - Potential risks include lack of commercial support and license management complexity.

@ioan_ivanov Wow, thanks for sharing. I too agree that an open source project could have more pros than cons, unfortunately I disagree with "Some projects may be immature or lack essential features.", as a project should solve a problem in order to be used by anyone. Lack of essential features would only keep away users from your product. Having in mind Signal or Mastodon, they don't really lack features.. but popularity. :-(
