What are the communication problems remote teams face?

In traditional office settings, most employees are accustomed to communication issues; however, remote workers are affected by these problems quite differently.
Do you face any kind of such problem? How do you try to overcome that?

A lot is lost in not seeing people's body language. Also, when you aren't around people seeing their mannerisms and reactions to mundane things, it's hard to gauge how they're reacting to you and what that reaction really means. It makes team retreats so important.
