Our mails landed in spam in October last year and our open rate dropped to 9%. We were so shocked and disappointed as mails are one of top sources for sales. So, we started working on our deliverability rates. We did these things that helped our mails to land in updates: ā†’ Removed links from the mails ā†’ Pivoted to text-only newsletter ā†’ Added numbers in the subject line ā†’ Fewer capital letters & emojis in the subject lines ā†’ Warmed up our domain by sending emails to highly active subscribers fequently. ā†’ CTA that encourages subscribers to reply back to emails in exchange for a free bonus With these efforts, our mails landed in updates and our open rate grew to 52%

What kind of emails are they? Product emails, community and promo, or sales cold email? Or newsletter emails? Or was it every kind of email? PS: congrats on the fix!

ā†’ Removed links from the mails ā†’ Pivoted to text-only newsletter ā†’ CTA that encourages subscribers to reply back to emails in exchange for a free bonus These three things only affect people once they open the email or am I seeing it wrong? How did these help in improving the email opening? I'm looking to start some email campaigns, so your post has the best timing ever! Thank you :D

Having more links will affect your deliverability. So, we removed links and pivoted to text only newsletter. Regarding the CTA, if our subscribers reply to our mails, chances of our mail dropping in their updates will be higher.

The results speak for themselves with that massive jump in open rates. I'm particularly intrigued by the idea of pivoting to a text-only newsletter and the clever use of numbers in the subject line

@karthik_tatikonda When you write a letter, is psychology a part of that letter. For example, you are writing a letter to a client and you need a special approach. What do you think?

Weekly newsletter emails @alvarovillalb_. We share tips about product launches and product hunt. And sometimes when we launch any new product, it will be a promotional mail.

Reason behind removing emojis in the subject line? dont you think sticking to 1 emoji only could be a good attention-grabbing strategy for people to find all your newsletters

Yeah, having an emoji is always good @cameronscully_. However, from our testing email emoji landed in promotions and without an emoji landed in updates. So, we stopped using emojis.
That's an impressive turnaround from 9% to 52% open rate for your emails.

Yeah, adding emojis is fine @hassan_shah7. But mails with emojis landed in promotions. So we stopped using emojis for our mails and it landed in updates.
