Some suggested Provenance as the solution to ever growing A.I-driven world, why is that so?

After diving around the discussion about AI in general, and doing a heavy use of ChatGPT myself, lately I started to notice, there's lots of articles, videos, and artwork in the internet created with A.I.
Even worse, there's an increasing use of A.I tools on creating deepfakes. Considering some countries actually are going to have an election in the coming year, I think this itself will pose a problem.
Last week I came upon a discussion that mention Provenance as the best solution in identifying A.I generated content. Like, it was everywhere, basically a proof of authenticity, and it doesn't only limit itself to A.I generated content.
I've read some insightful articles that touch upon these points, but I'd love to expand my understanding. How crucial do you think Provenance is in our increasingly digital and AI-driven world? How might it evolve with advancements in AI? And are there any tools or platforms you'd recommend to explore this topic further?
Thank you in advance for sharing your wisdom! 🙏
