I mainly look at the way they logically think, and most of all, at their attitude. They must be a fit for me and the team. Technical skills or skills that are required for the role are less important, they can be learned.

The candidate should not prefer copying/pasting stuff when something is needed. Or they shouldn't use any low quality shortcut to solve stuff. They should do stuff in high quality ways. The end result doesn't have to be very high quality each time but the path chosen should be so.
