I'm planning my first launch. Just read that you need to gather the audience beforehand otherwise it will be useless.

Any tips for a rookie? :)

Well, do you have an existing network/audience on social media? You can link them your producthunt page when it launches, and tease them about it beforehand as well.

Yep, the best way to gather an audience is building a waitlist.
