Hello everyone, three days ago, I was feeling very depressed and stressed. I didn't have a way to pay off my current debt and rent, and I was on the verge of homelessness. I had lost all hope in life and was feeling suicidal. I started looking for help to share with someone but didn't have enough finances to afford a mental health professional. I tried reaching out to some psychologists and counselors via email, seeking help. They told me to pay their consultancy fees before they could consult, or suggested trying suicide helplines. Being in India, I tried many helpline numbers, but most of them had working hours and were not responsive at night. Feeling hopeless, I turned to Reddit and Facebook groups, and finally, I connected with some people who had been in my situation a few years back and were now doing well in their lives. Talking to them gave me hope that if I stayed alive, I might figure out a way to improve my situation. They continue to DM me and ask if I am doing well, having been through similar situations, and understanding exactly how it feels. While my problem is not fixed yet, their stories have given me hope that I can overcome it. With this newfound hope, I want to ensure that others facing mental health issues due to challenging circumstances don't feel as hopeless. My plan is an app where people struggling with mental health issues can connect with individuals who have been in similar situations in the past and have thrived, leading better lives. These mentors can provide guidance and restore lost hope. The app aims to connect people in need with those who have overcome similar challenges. If necessary, users can still consult psychologists. For those in situations like mine, professional help will be available at a subsidized price, and for severe cases, it may even be provided for free. I propose a cross-subsidized model to make the app sustainable. Those without financial constraints can pay the full fees, while those facing financial challenges can opt for subsidized fees. As users improve their financial situations, they can contribute to the app's sustainability. I would appreciate feedback on this initiative. If you want to support the cause, be part of it, or if you are struggling or have thrived through mental health struggles, you can join the community for support. Thank you.
