Hey Product Hunters! I'm curious to hear about your experiences with cold mailing. Have you found more success with hyper-personalized emails or with more general approaches that follow a template? Would love to hear your stories!

I feel like cold email is almost dead honestly... Personalisation certainly helps, but by and large, no tricks or best practices can help you raise the response rate much higher than the current average (a mere 7.5% if I'm not mistaken). So it's better to use other ways to reach out!

@natalia_toth I believe the response rate varies depending on the target audience. Typically, B2B interactions yield better results. If your startup is B2C, cold mailing will be really slow, and you should try to get viral and have Product-Led growth. Whereas if you're in B2B, you should have a Sales-Led approach and have a 1 on 1 demo, talk to executives, do the onboarding process yourself or with a team, and then close the sale. The difference will be the lifetime value of the customer. It's much higher in Sales-Led.

@sreenington thanks for sharing! I've never worked in B2C to be honest :) But another thing that came to my mind is that success also depends on the goal / topic / reason of your cold email. For example, trying to get backlinks to your content with cold outreach is very painful

I've had more success with hyper-personalized emails. They show genuine interest and resonate better with recipients.

@chrisliam Yeah, I agree. It must be genuine though. Research the person online. Find something online and give a short compliment on how something they made helped you.

Personalized email is definitely better way to go in my experience.
