Is there really anyone else who hasn't experienced ChatGPT in July 2024?

I live in Japan and my company's business is in Japan. Today, I talked to a head of the transportation industry, and the other company plans to introduce AI products to improve work efficiency within 2024. They shared with me that before my arrival, they had only heard of ChatGPT and OpenAI, but had never experienced LLMs (Large Language Models) and didn't know how to use them. The company also does not allow people to use ChatGPT and other AI products internally due to concerns about data leakage.

I can understand the privacy leakage issue, but not actually experiencing chatgpt so far has shocked me a bit.

ChatGPT is everywhere these days, so it’s unlikely anyone hasn’t experienced it by now.

I find that people who use LLMs on a regular basis are convinced that everyone else has some experience with them as well. I have to check myself constantly because I realize again and again that truly mostly people do not use these tools- they may have checked out what all the buzz was about- think: query for something like Shakespeare in the voice of Jerry Seinfeld- and never used them again.

For the large percentage of people, LLMs do not yet/currently solve/assist with any of their problems.

Wow, that's surprising to hear in this day and age! I think a lot of companies, especially larger and more traditional ones, are still figuring out how to responsibly leverage AI while managing risks around data privacy and security. But I agree, it seems hard to imagine not having any firsthand experience with ChatGPT or other LLMs at this point. Maybe you could offer to do an internal demo/presentation to educate leadership on the capabilities and potential use cases in a safe environment? There are also enterprise AI platforms emerging that have more robust security and access controls. Might be worth exploring those as an easier path to adoption vs the public chatbots.
