I would love to add features of Chat with Product Builders and Make it more community-centric.

Love that you asked this question, @girirajasar. I'll be following the thread. :)

What if you add a feature where the founder could make their product be for sale. What if we make it into an auction like way where the highest bidder buys it. What if we make it a crowd funded aspect where the community could invest into a product and it's team. They not only get promotion, but also funding to take their product to the next level.

Alerts for relevant categories of products you could define.

@davidvkimball how do you want to use these alerts? Are you trying to solve an issue of getting a more personalized feed or you want to make sure you never miss a launch in a more niche category? Or is it something else?

@product_at_producthunt there might be two different use cases here - if I had the ability to opt out of critical alerts for products I can't use - anything Mac or iOS specific, but then get an alert when the Android or Windows version comes out, that would be gold. But ALSO having niche categories like "services related to managing social profiles" or "free for life" tools, etc.

* I would love to be notified every time somebody follows the teaser page. I am obsessed with the follower count on that page at the moment, but have to visit it ten times a day to see if any new followers have come in 🙈 * There is no way for me to know who has followed me on the web / desktop version. I can only figure that through the mobile app. Which is honestly not that big a deal, but would be good to have since I prefer browsing PH on my laptop (I avoid using my phone while im working as much as i can)
If I were building Product Hunt in 2023, one feature I would love to add is a personalized recommendation system. This system would leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to understand the user's preferences, interests, and past activity on the platform. It would then generate tailored recommendations for new products, services, or startups that align with the user's specific interests. This feature would enhance the user experience by providing highly relevant and curated suggestions, saving users time and effort in discovering products that match their individual needs. The recommendation system could take into account factors such as the user's previous upvotes, comments, and browsing history to deliver personalized recommendations. It could also consider social connections and collaborations to offer products that their friends or colleagues have found useful or interesting. Additionally, the recommendation system could be designed to adapt and learn from user feedback. By allowing users to provide explicit feedback on recommended products (e.g., thumbs up or thumbs down), the system could refine its understanding of individual preferences over time, improving the accuracy and quality of future recommendations. Overall, this personalized recommendation feature would make Product Hunt even more valuable to users, ensuring that they discover the most relevant and exciting products in their areas of interest, and further fostering a thriving community of product enthusiasts.

@heykav thanks for the feedback. Personalization is something we’re researching. The trick is to figure out how we can scale the feature so that everyone benefits, not just put logged in users. Stay tuned 📡

DMs would be great!

I'd like to be able to have a public list of apps I use that I found on PH that I can curate (add and remove) in categories....it would be interesting to look up a person and see what they use. I know I can share a list, but it's not default share, so I don't feel it's part of the culture.

Competitor analysis maybe!

While I greatly respect and appreciate the work done by the Product Hunt team, if given the opportunity, one feature I would love to explore adding is a more robust recommendation engine. Enhancing the platform's ability to curate personalized product recommendations based on users' interests and past interactions could greatly enhance the discovery and user experience on Product Hunt. However, I understand that the Product Hunt team continuously strives to improve and innovate, and I trust their expertise in deciding which features best align with their vision and goals.

Ability to see the list of people who supported the product, subscribed to upcoming page, etc. This is important to have an option to extract the list of product community

I would make the social network for products more flexible. By flexible, I mean more opportunities for communication and this would improve the company's brand.
Tej Garikapati
Absolutely waiting for the direct messaging feature. Will become a comolete community then. Curious, why the founders do not want to go down that route.
@tej_sai I was wondering the same thing!
Ryan Hoover
@tej_sai we used to have DMs but ultimately killed it. Ultimately too many people were abusing it with self-promotion. There's certainly a version of DMs that would be useful and welcomed, but it never became a high enough priority to build relative to other projects. Why do you want DMs on Product Hunt? I'm curious to learn your use cases. :)
Sarim Khalid
@tej_sai @rrhoover Spam and abuse was the first thing that came to my mind too. I guess if you really want to reach out to someone, email or Twitter DM are good available options.
Tej Garikapati
@rrhoover Thanks for your reply. I absolutely see how this could increase spam, especially when it comes to something like product hunt. Here's a few reasons why I wanted a dm feature. 1. Product Hunt at the moment has the biggest community of entrepreneurs, indie makers and marketers. Collaborations between them would be great. If I find a product interesting and want to collaborate with the maker, I would have to leave the platform. 2. Forming genuine connections is hard without dms. Simple things like sharing jokes and memes might go a long way here. As you said, maybe a form of dm exists where we can control the spam. A LinkedIn like system where you can only communicate with your connections might work. While we are at it, a quick question, while building producthunt what was the most challenging part? Cheers
Ryan Hoover
@tej_sai appreciate you sharing. :) Re: your question, the answer varies based on the time period you're referring to. In the very early days, the hardest challenge was getting to a critical mass of engagement. Later on when we hit some scale, we encountered different challenges in community building and spam moderation.

I'd love to see a gamified loyalty program that rewards users for frequent interactions, such as reviewing or sharing products.
Clarence Thomas
Incorporating a feature that allows users to set up private product discussion groups would be a great way to foster niche communities within the platform
Kenneth Clark
To enhance user engagement, I would add a personalized AI-recommendation feature that suggests new products based on users' previous interactions and reviews.
Louise Rivera
How about a 'Try Before You Buy' augmented reality feature, allowing users to virtually experience products within their own environments?
Deborah Nelson
I'd implement a live-chat function, connecting users directly with product creators for real-time queries and rich, interactive discussions.
