    We're building in public, and everything was free for the first 6 months. Then came to a point where we had enough contributors and quality content that it was time to put a subscription in place, maybe got half a dozen subscribers in the first month.

    You should always start with market research. Try getting in touch with people who have similar businesses to get feedback. You should also try to reach out to people who have been in your position before, who’ve had the same idea, and who have been able to succeed. If they agreed to talk to you, that’s great, if they agreed to talk to you in exchange for something, like a free consultation, that’s even better.
