How often are you changing pricing or running experiments around pricing for your product?

Monetization is a tough part of making changes in SaaS. I'm wondering how often are you making changes to it or running experiments and what were the pitfalls during the process.

Depending on which industry you are going for, the cost of running your app, financing its development, and the upcoming features, you will have to list those charges. Then you can clearly decide on the starting price and the number of paying customers you could feel plausible to reach. I am going for an evolving price based on the new features that are gonna implemented in a near future. It's common sense and it will create an increase in the FOMO. Also, if your targeted audience is high and your cost of running your app is low (being solo with a few contractors), you can really aim for the minimum price at first. I am dealing with Universities and they even went on asking for a lower price. Just give a margin on your pricing, then it should be fine to negotiate the price and let them have it. It's a long-term vision if your app still needs some improvements and new features to be added. Early adopters get the best deals, then the next year, you can increase the price for the second wave. At least that's how I approach the pricing for my product and indeed, it's not easy!

@jack95 Thanks. How do you communicate these changes and how long beforehand? Seems like you're talking about feature-based pricing with some add-ons, right? I have in mind tiered pricing that requires changes across the board.
