How much time do you spend researching for an upcoming client/customer pitch?

Though the question will be most relevant to agency owners, I think founders, indie makers, product owners would also find some relevance. I'd really appreciate if you can include the following points in your answer as well - 1. Are you usually satisfied with the end result? a) If yes, what works for you? b) If not, what are the top 3 things you'd like to do differently? 2.
