How much of your product success depends upon the Hunter?

I've been talking to a lot of makers recently to understand Hunters role in the launch. Till now I've got mixed responses. While some said it didn't add much value, others were of the opinion that it gave them inital push and momentum. Product Hunt makers, what's your take on it?
