Hello there! 👋 Part of my work as a Product Owner is to validate concepts and assumptions so that better decisions can be made to shape the product and maximize its value to consumers. My team and I are currently developing software for businesses with two or more nationalities that need to share localized documents both internally and outside. So, I'd want to enlist your assistance to better understand the general state of organizations in terms of the number of nationalities working together. 🙏

Over the last two years, we've really grown into a multi-national team. Most of us are based in Japan but there are teammates from all over the world - Europe, America, Africa, Asia, Australia. It's a very diverse environment and talking to each other is always great fun.

Great, @maya_ovice! Thanks for sharing! I'm also based in Japan! We're a team of 10 from 8 different nationalities. Do you and your team use only English at work, or are you also using Japanese?
Rinat Khat
In my company(launching on PH soon) at least 8 nationalities. We are working on matching US-based companies with developers from India, Africa, and LATAM. Many of our clients are wary of hiring people from a different culture. But after hiring, they mention only positive points about their decision.
Rogerio Taques
Great, @rinat_khatipov1! Thanks for sharing that. Do you primarily speak in English or are you guys using any second language at work?
Rogerio Taques
@rinat_khatipov1 cool! How do you guys usually share documents and notes?
Rinat Khat
@rogeriotaques yea, all work communication is conducted in English

@inesfenner cool! Thanks for sharing. Same here, my team is comprised of 8 nationalities, but all of us are working in Japan. 🤗 However, we're primarily working from home.

Currently I am working with people from around 5 countries and its been a great experience so far. You learn a lot about their culture and the way of working.
Rogerio Taques
Indeed, @gurpinder_singh! Working with people from different nationalities and cultures is awesome. So many opportunities for learn from each-other! 🤗 So you guys all use English at work?
Gurpinder Singh
@rogeriotaques Yeah right! mostly its English only.
Rogerio Taques
@gurpinder_singh, nice to know! :) Thanks for sharing.
Rogerio Taques
@muhammad_awais9, thanks for sharing. Are you guys use English as the common language?

4 different nationalities currently
Joanne Hurley
@rogeriotaques All using English and all remote.
Rogerio Taques
Awesome, @joanne_hurleyv1 ! Are you all working from the same place, or are you working remotely? Also, are you all using English as the main language for business communication?
Joanne Hurley
@rogeriotaques It's actually easier than my previous company that started fully remote then had some team together in the office and others remote, if everybody is in the same boat then it feels easier somehow. I haven't lived in my own country for 16 years or so and I have also worked in my second language so I understand how language nuance and culture can differ and affect communication but I think having been in that position myself it's easier for me to adapt to co workers and their challenges speaking English as a second language.
Rogerio Taques
@joanne_hurleyv1 I totally got you. 🤗 I once worked with a fully remotely distributed team - across 3 different timezones - where everyone was using English as the second language and it was somehow easier to handle the communication! Thank you for sharing.
Rogerio Taques
@joanne_hurleyv1 cool! Alignment and communication might be a challenge, huh!
Muhammad Mujadid Butt
We work with the people of 2 different nationalities.
Rogerio Taques
Awesome, @muhammad_mujadid_butt! Are you using English as the common language?
Nicky Ahuja
in our company, only 6 people of the 15 are of the same nationality, and out of those 6 (two share one nationality and 4 share the other)
Rogerio Taques
Nice, @nicky_ahuja! Thanks for sharing that! Are you guys all using English to communicate? How do you guys share documents to each-other?
