How do you use slack for work? Does it help or hinder?

People do all sorts of work in slack especially when teams are working remote, but how do you use it? For teams working in more of a customer facing role it can be vital, helping them connect with other teams like Product Management to try and find out answers or sharing critical issues with Engineering. I always found it more of a distraction (I'm a Product Manager) as I always got half baked questions or requests. We've built a tool to try and combat that so that teams can work more collaboratively and capture the right context for issues or feedback with categories and tags.
