Congrats on taking the initiative @yannell_selman to share this survey. Nevertheless, to avoid experiencing burnout, can take into consideration several tips you can follow throughout the day:
1. Take breaks: It is essential to take regular breaks throughout the day, even if it is just for five minutes to stretch or take a walk outside.
2. Practice mindfulness: You can integrate mindfulness practices such as meditation or deep breathing exercises into your daily routine.
3. Set boundaries: Learn to say no when your plate emerges full. Ensure that you have a clear view of work-life boundaries.
4. Prioritize self-care: Allocate time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation, like reading a book or listening to classical music.
5. Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can lead to exhaustion and burnout. Thus, ensure you can prioritize getting a good night's sleep every night.

As the above members say, look after yourself. I make sure I get 7-8 hours sleep every night, run 4-5 days a week and I stay clear of any naughty things Monday - Thursday, I mean chocolate and biscuits etc.
I always eat a large breakfast of porridge and fruit. This sets me up for the day. It’s the basic things that keep us from burning out and maintain our motivation for our work goals.
It’s all common sense stuff but most people don’t apply it and wonder why they feel terrible and are putting on weight… it’s then a slippery slope and very hard to reverse bad behaviours. I hope this helps everyone.
@yannell_selman sorry I’m a little confused here. Do you mean we don’t focus on sleep enough or sometimes it’s hard to get enough sleep because of the workload?
Burnout Bot
@dracreate Even if we sleep enough, that’s not enough to prevent burnout. If you’re sleeping 8 hours/night but still engaging in unsustainable work practices the other 16 hours of the day, you will still burn out. Preventing burnout requires sustainable work practices.
Burnout Bot
@dracreate I’ll define unsustainable work practices: massive workloads, no community/professional network, no control over your schedule/work, lack of alignment to values w your job, a lack of trust in your leadership and management, etc. All of these factors cause burnout overtime despite sleep habits.
Burnout Bot
@dracreate sleep is so critical! But not enough - we have to address workplace norms
@yannell_selman I couldn’t agree more. That makes perfect sense. Thanks for explaining 🙏
Sleep and have a walk in the park.

@stewalker007 yes to fresh air! Kinda random but I’ve noticed that my eyes get so tired after long work days on the computer. Walking outside is apparently really good for that because you look long distances, and that helps relax your eyes/uses the opposite muscles vs screens. I’m currently very addicted to my daily walk through the redwoods in Oakland !

Preventing burnout through self-care is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and productivity. I find it essential to prioritize self-care in my daily routine, setting clear boundaries between work and personal life.
Regular breaks, stress management techniques like meditation or deep breathing exercises, and engaging in physical activities help me recharge and stay focused. @theproductdose 100% with you on boundaries and prioritizing! I do worry that self-care isn’t enough; when we talk about self care, we don’t talk about organizational/systemic causes of burnout which are the actually root causes.

@jc_mindverse yes! Being active is a game changer - moving really helps lower stress levels. I don’t know any v senior people who don’t do intense workouts, Tbh.

These days I find I get the most benefit from setting clear expectations and boundaries at work as soon as possible. After being a manager and leader for a number of years now, I feel I've learned how to do this more effectively. In some ways, I think it's a learned skill. Of course, it's not always possible when there are value misalignments, but it's good to find out about those early, as well!

I try to keep it simple. You need to have 3 main activities in your life. One to make you money, one to keep you happy, and one to keep you healthy. Striking a balance between can definitely help you maintain your sanity.
Do you have one for each?
