How do you plan your travels?

Hello there, I'm currently working on my MBA program's final project. My project's goal is to create a business plan for a company - in my case, a travel company - so I'm posting in this subreddit. Let me quickly explain what it is about: My business plan will revolve around a company that offers a personalised travel guide in the form of an app. My current positioning statement is: For those who enjoy city breaks but don't have the time to conduct extensive research about the destination, the indie travel guide is a well-curated list of restaurants, shops, and other places you must visit. Unlike Lonely Planet or travel blogs, it provides a list of places that is personalized and updated monthly as well as made available in an app. Personally, I travel for pleasure a few times a year. I spend about four to five hours per destination researching restaurants, shops, and sights. I dislike doing it, but it is a necessary evil. If a friend has recently visited the same location, I can sometimes skip the research. In some cases, they have compiled a list on which I can rely. Because they are my friends, I know whether we have similar tastes or not. Now I'd like to learn more about how you research places for your upcoming trip, how you do it, and how much you enjoy it.
