The more participants there are on a video call, the more difficult I find it to keep focused.

Whenever possible, I redirect them to asynchronous channels. But, if I do have to have a live call, I use a strict agenda and start by asking the other attendees what they hope to get out of the call. As soon as we reach the outcome, we end the call.

The best way to keep focused during video calls is to turn on your camera and participate in the discussion.
Keep visual focus on a speaker the way you do in in-person conversation. Ppl do say interesting things all the time )

Taking notes. It really helps to stay focused
Getting a break before - to ground myself and recenter and prepare for the meeting. Before, I like to make sure I have everything already with me, like water and snacks plus a notebook for notes. During I make sure to be comfortable so I may toss on some super comfy socks or slippers, I'll take as many notes as makes sense, and with my company we have highlights to capture our takeaways from the meeting - those help with accountability. After the meeting I tend to take breaks to reset the brain and get back to working.

To actively participate on the calls and listen attentively to what others talk about.

I can't. I don't. I really struggle not doing several things at the same time, which can be complicated to handle for video calls.
However, I systematically open blank note to keep track of the meeting and its content. Weirdly enough, it works!

By only joining calls that are important. If you can't stay focused on a call, question whether the call is a valuable use of your time.
I am following these steps

Engage in active listening

Turn on 'do not disturb'!!
I try to avoid lengthy video calls - keep them short and focused :)
Make the effort to take notes! or even just jot down the key topics
Try to turn off the distractions before the meeting, especially things like Slack.
Try to ensure you don't have them back-to-back. Having a short break in between them can do wonders.
