How do you guys feel with artificial pushes in your social media presence?

It has been a side-chat conversation during meetings at my tech start up about purchasing followers for our app/service's Instagram account. Simply for that initial boost and appearance of activity. I'd like to think that it comes off tacky and inauthentic the moment anyone takes a look into the page. The argument wasn't the importance of authenticity but the appearance of an active account. Does this actually matter in the long haul of a service based app trying to create a social media presence similar to BetterHelp and online telemedicine services alike?
