We already have products and early customers and had somehow winged it through demos, support, and through (thankfully) patient customers. We feel that there is much to improve in both our user activity and paid conversion rate and nailing both the usability and onboarding is now moving into high priority. Do you have any pointers you can share? Process, metrics, and things to watch out for?

To conduct usability testing for a startup: define objectives, identify target users, develop test scenarios, recruit participants, conduct tests, gather feedback, analyze results, and iterate on product improvements for an enhanced user experience.

Identify what you want to test and why. Don't overwhelm testers. Keep things simple. Build systems to document results before you start testing. A/B test as simply and quickly as possible.
