How close are we to achieving Artificial General Intelligence?

I feel AGI has come a long way from its inception. There was a time when AI was a far fetched idea for general people and only scientists used it. But today, everyone from engineers to marketers to sales to HR; all use AI. Read an article recently where they are talking about Artificial Super Intelligence(ASI).
