I've noticed that a lot of founders here market their product themselves which is admirable! However, sometimes, a little marketing piece of advice can go a long way. Is there something you always wanted to ask about marketing in general or a particular service? Anything is your marketing mix that doesn't seem to make sense? Ant ideas you need help validating? Ask away! I specialise in tech marketing for early-stage companies, and love solving marketing mysteries and mysteries 💡

Hello Alexandra, I would love to ask several questions about this as it is a challenge Can I get an advice on early startups on ai with a very little niche (Like USA and Canada) and how to market this product with little or no cost Thank you!

@theonlyleke with little or no cost, I would recommend investing in SEO + pitching macro influencers (with few but highly engaged followers) for a free demo and shoutout to the tool Launching on Product Hunt is also free + there are some other free (or very cheap) platforms, for instance, There's An AI For That (it used to cost only like $9 to be featured there)

I'd love your take on balancing organic and paid marketing strategies for early stage startup.

@aurther_bella use paid for TOFU and organic for MOFU/BOFU If your ads budget is under $3000/month, it may make sense to focus on one acquisition channel (Google ads, Meta, TikTok - whatever makes more sense for your platform) and optimise for clicks. Estimate your customer lifetime value to see if the acquisition cost makes sense Also, allocate some budget for boosting posts on social media, they often work super well for both on-platform discovery (growing organic presence) and website visits For instance, ads on LinkedIn rarely make sense for businesses with LTV under $50 due to high cost per lead, but you can boost a post for $50 and get multiple leads + grow your page

What are the most effective strategies for growing an email subscriber list organically? Also, any tips on optimizing email open rates?

@lightfield Make it one of the key call to actions on your website/social media. You could, for instance, create a lead magnet (a resource that will be valuable for your audience, like a checklist or an ebook) and launch a popup that offers to share said free resource in exchange for email (don't forget to add a nurturing email sequence to keep your followers engaged) As for optimising the open rate, keep experimenting. Ideally, run A/B tests too see which formats perform better.

Hi Alexandra, Just a quick question - should marketing goals be aligned with business goals or vice-versa, to achieve long-term sustainable benefits for a business? In either case, how better to ensure each gets fueled by the other, and not dragged by the other? Thank you!

@anurag_mehta Business goals always come first, and marketing goals should serve them You can't really set marketing goals if you are not sure where you want to take your business. Setting business goals first will also help you see how much you should invest in your marketing budget For instance, you can't really expect to x10 your sales in Q3 if your marketing budget stays the same For the early stage, I'd say, think about your customers lifetime value and how much you need to make to break even. This will give you a rough idea of how many customers you need and how wide your marketing should be

I want to learn all about Tech Marketing, especially all that you know. Tell me how should I get started, sources, courses, and everything in between. Plus, I'd love to connect and ask questions (it'd be great if you agree 🥹).

@adeeb_malik That would probably take a few years as I've been in marketing for about 10 years 😉 I recommend you begin with free courses on platforms like Semrush or Coursera that walk you through a guided learning path. Then, you can choose a domain you want to specialise in (ads, SEO, content marketing, etc.) and go for more detailed curriculums Goos luck!

When evaluating the success of a marketing campaign, what metrics do you consider most important for measuring ROI
Share
Alexandra Goss
@jeanette_walls that will depend on the campaign’s main goal - for example, ROI for brand awareness social media campaign will be very different for that of a retargeting ads campaign You can see different website actions as a measure of ROI for different stages of the funnel. These will be unique to the product and monetisation model - I can provide more precise recommendations if you share more details
