Google Sandbox: The Destroyer Of Start-Ups

What is Google sandbox? And why does Google use it? Google Sandbox is believed to be a filter that’s used by Google to prevent new websites from ranking high in Google’s Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). It’s believed that Google uses this filter to put some restrictions on rankings for new websites. It’s unclear why Google uses it. Some experts think the search engine needs time to check if a website is spammy or not. Others believe it takes a while for Google to understand what a website is about and collect the information needed to rank it! You can think of the sandbox as a probation period that google imposes on you before you can be seen on the rankings. Yet, no one can tell how long Google Sandbox lasts! Take a look at what Rand Fishkin co-founder of Moz said about his time in the sandbox, “SEOmoz is finally sandbox free for the first time since our move to this domain 9 months ago. We aren’t alone, either. Many folks had sites escape, and I’m happy for all of them. It looks like our 12,000+ all-natural links (never link built for this site, just link-baited) finally paid off”. While in the Sandbox don't expect any rankings for your keywords, not even the low competition keywords!! Give it about a year and then you will be able to see results!! And it doesn't matter how much content you pump out, Google will not rank you until it is certain that your website has something good to offer the public and remember….. The sites that are ranking the highest for competitive keywords have been doing this for a long time, and they're still going strong! It would be insane to think that you would see the results of your SEO in a month or two. You have to work hard for the #1 spot. So that brought up the question…. When did the sandbox effect first appear? And how did google treat websites before the Sandbox existed? The sandbox effect became well-known back in 2004. At that time, SEOs first noticed that it was impossible to rank new websites high. What also drew their attention was the fact that it was happening with Google Search only! Bing and Yahoo ranked new websites high from the very beginning. Almost 20 years have passed now and Google still puts new websites to Sandbox and keeps them there for several months.
