Really depends on the work field in my opinion, but i think it's a really nice way to get friends that share the same interests from work, i.e if you're both designers

@hhn Studies have repeatedly shown the benefits of work friendships, yet one of the major obstacles to forming these bonds is cultural. I completely agree that this can vary significantly depending on the region.
