Founder on 2nd launch and stumped by marketing

I've never used Product Hunt before. There are a dozen social media all demanding time, optimization, and dangling an evergreen audience as a carrot. I'd really rather just work on my app. I think we got lucky with our first app (Compressed PDF and Image Exporter). We went from 0 to 10,000 users in five months and it's still growing. We built Component Collector for the same audience (Figma designers), and I think it's also an amazing app, but it's been harder getting the word out. As a new founder is Product Hunt worth my time? We've never invested anything in social, and don't have the time to invest in all of them.

In a way PH is "launching gamified" in a social context. As you surely will see browsing community discussions and comments, most people on PH are there to self-promote. So ironically, most don't care about other launches than their own. Then there are some that are here for the community, and inspiration. Trying to contribute with value. So it is not all dark. :) With that said, using PH as your go-to-market plan is really only a good idea if your product is targeting the very people on PH. Typically you will see a lot of people checking your product out - not because they want to use it, but because they're curious about how to build a business. Hence, conversion is typically not great (unless other product builders is your target audience). So again, in terms of marketing, put your effort where your users are. And use PH as an extra boost to get your product out the door, rather than the single go-to-market strategy.
