Does founder ethnicity/location impact product success?

I never gave this much thought until I launched a product to the public. I started observing the space that isn't just my local host. Initially, I thought good, well-designed products will gain user trust. So my focus has been focused on the quality of the product. I don't believe I've reached my standards yet in any products I've made so far. But I'm starting to wonder if my ethnicity/location could be limiting. I observed that perhaps some users generated shortcuts to judging products. One of the shortcuts could be the name of the founder, or where they live. I don't know about the community as a whole, but I tend to design for internet people. I assume my users speak English and can use the usual web UI elements. I imagine the internet as its own free country with a global population. My country has a small population of my target audience. And on the internet, I feel a tag like "Made with love by Adam Smith | San Francisco"... would trump a name you can't pronounce from a place you aren't familiar with. You could swap the founder name with a product/company name, but the place is the same. I think this could be especially difficult if your country has a (real or fake) bad reputation. Have you experienced this before? If yes, how did you tackle it?
