They're not just trying to make you hungry, or give you the FOMO for a dineout deal (that 'is' the goal, but not the 'only' goal), they're trying to connect with you on a personal level, to associate their brand with fun and good food experiences.
They want to know what makes 'you' tick when it comes to food and ordering in.
This way, you don't just order food right away, but quite often they do make you laugh (smirk) and 'think' about your next meal (making a positive and lasting impact).
That's the power of directly conversing and connecting with your customers, via email that is.
It's about building relationships, leading to loyalty and lasting engagement, not just making sales.
